I cast my ballot today for the 2024 election in the United States in the hopes and joyful expectations that Kamala Harris will win and be declared president.
Most people I know – that is, family, friends and organizational men and women – will agree with me that she is the better candidate to help our future and not go back to a past that hurt so many people of modest means while helping only the rich.
Hell, I am an inactive attorney and I identify keenly with a person who knows their way around the courtroom even though she she she served as a prosecutor and me a public defender. She also served as attorney general of California and then as a senator before being named vice-president bringing more government experience to the position of president than anyone ever before in our history.
Very Little Joy in MAGA Households
She brings a feeling of joy to her endeavors as well as those of her followers and I believe it will continue when she takes office in January. But there will be very little joy in MAGA households, many in areas where I grew up in the Brewerytown section of North Philadelphia and even a small section of Conshohocken where I have seen about the same number of Trump signs as well as the “Harris/Walz” signs.

Most union groups throughout the nation will be supporting the vice president particularly after her old boss became the first president ever to walk a picket line like I did as a union organizer for The Newspaper Guild of Philadelphia. Some unions – like the Teamsters – will not fully support her, but just ask yourself: how many Teamsters do you know who are more likely to support the man with the orange face than the woman that helps bring us joy? Yet, I still have hope the other side will do the right thing.
The senior center I attend will be happy. So will the group members I meditate with on a weekly basis. You can add to the hopeful list my Conshohocken town leaders, my Montgomery County officials and the Pennsylvania government which is head by Josh Shapiro, a staunch supporter of Kamala Harris and a person on the list she viewed for a possible running mate.
I feel I have done my patriotic duty to vote in the most meaningful election of my life and have not felt such an accomplishment since I left the Vietnam War to soldier for peace and prosperity back here at home.
The Harris/Walz ticket has generated such excitement and hopefulness at a time when it is much needed. The campaign has not only preached unity to the choir it has welcomed other voices who typically or never join the song of the democrats. It is the most important election of our time. Let’s keep our fingers crossed…
Thanks for writing about this.

Who would have thought that former Vice President Dick Cheney would support Kamala Harris. She also got endorsed by the former attorney general Alberto Gonzalez and many other Republicans.
They want to protect America and support ideas they can see growth with and simply compromise a little for the betterment of the nation.

I wish I believed she was going to win. I will do everything in my power to make sure she does, but… Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton was also over-qualified compared to any man who ever ran and should have been a shoe-in, but lost the electoral college and therefore the race to the most unqualified man on the planet.
No matter what happens, I continue to remind myself that our country is about to go through an even more difficult time. Even if Vice President Harris wins the election, the fallout will not be pretty. And if she loses, well, that will be even worse.
I don’t mean to put a damper on such a wonderful blog post, just shouting from the rooftops when I can – “…this ain’t over yet. We have so much more work to do!” 😔
