When evil companions are associated with, the three poisons increase, the activities of listening, pondering and meditation decline, and love and compassion are extinguished. Abandoning evil companions is the Bodhisattvas’ practice.

A bodhisattva’s practice is to rid ourselves of bad friends
With whom, when we associate,
our three poisonous emotions come to increase;
Our actions of listening, thinking, and meditating come to decrease;

I like this. Too often it becomes hard to “break away” from old habits and old friends. In time, I guess they become less important while walking this path.
