The Importance of Having Proper Friends

A bodhisattva’s practice is to rid ourselves of bad friends
With whom, when we associate,
our three poisonous emotions come to increase;
Our actions of listening, thinking, and meditating come to decrease;
And our love and compassion turn to nil.

  1. Thank you so much for posting this. This is something I am currently working on because I read something in the Dhammapadda

    “If on ones way, one does not come across one’s better or an equal then one should press on resolutely alone, there is no companionship with a fool”

      I like this. Too often it becomes hard to “break away” from old habits and old friends. In time, I guess they become less important while walking this path.
