“What am I doing here?” I asked myself as I sat in a cushioned chair with some 50 other people early this morning on the last day of 2015. I was here at the invitation of a woman I hardly knew, a minister, who enticed me to join the world in a planet-wide prayer for peace. 

     White-Gowned Women lead the Way to Peace

All gathered at the same time in the Greenwich Time Zone. In my group, ten white-gowned women greeted me before the early hour of 7 am. That’s seven in the morning! I had to get up at five o’clock to get here, which is Wilmington, Delaware, 45 minutes from my Philadelphia area home.

     Hearing the sound of “Om” being played on a loudspeaker, I slowly entered into a meditative state, closing my eyes and resting in the moment. I didn’t care about anything . . . I didn’t even try to answer my first question.

I am . . . I seemed to understand.

I am peace . . .

I am calm . . .

I am the light of the world.

World Healing Meditation Service

     Unbeknownst to me, I had joined with hundreds of thousands of others meditating at that exact same time. We offered the world a vision of what peace and harmony could provide the planet at the “World Healing Meditation Service.” It was sponsored by The Center for Joyful Living (http://www.centerforjoyfulliving.net/) which held the nearly two-hour gathering, which included a hearty potluck breakfast and sincere wishes for a new year.

     It was labeled “World Healing Day, the World Instant of Cooperation, World Peace Day — a moment of Oneness to dissolve the sense of separation and return humankind to Godkind.”

“You may say that I’m a dreamer . . . But I’m not the only one . . .”

     Several speakers requested us to envision a world of healing through visions for the environment, wellness, prosperity, and peace, as well as for the earth’s children, and my favorite one, a vision for relationships. Afterward, I approached the woman who spoke about relationships, thanking her for mentioning how some relationships eventually end, and that we can continue with new ones throughout our lives. She spoke directly to my soul right then, and I felt my spirit being uplifted with her magical words.

Millions Expected to Meditate and See the Light

     Periods of silence followed each vision as we meditated. All sought loving kindness and compassion and the highest good.

     Some two million participants were expected to meet and see the world in such an enlightened state of being. I know that I did.

That is, see the light. See the world through the light.

     It reminded me of what occurred years ago in Washington, DC, the nation’s capital, when hundreds gathered to meditate. The organizers contemplated peace and calm there. Police scoffed at the idea that such a practice could achieve anything in the crime-laden city.

     Yet statistics from the police’s own records showed that the crime rate had decreased by 23 percent while the meditation spread from the participants in the hall to those outside on the city streets.

     Perhaps my sitting today might have a similar effect on the world.
